COMMUNIST Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison has accused President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of killing the peace negotiations between the government and the National Democratic Front.
“Together with her Cabinet Oversight Committee-Internal Security, she has undertaken actions to kill the peace negotiations between the NDFP and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP),” Sison said in an e-mailed statement.
Sison, now living as a political refugee in Utrecht, the Netherlands, said the only way the peace negotiations can be resurrected is for the broad united front and the mass movement to oust Ms Arroyo and install a new government willing to pursue the negotiations.
Last week, Arroyo vowed to “go for the jugular” and crush the communist insurgency once and for all. She dismissed the communist insurgency as irrelevant.
“Gloria M. Arroyo has the illusion that she can retain political power by drumming up anti-communist hysteria and using brute
force against the broad masses of the people and the broad united front of patriotic, progressive and other anti-Arroyo forces,” Sison said.
