Repainting of disabled persons’ crossing lane asked

Repainting of disabled persons’ crossing lane asked – Sun.Star Baguio!

COUNCILOR Leandro Yangot Jr. has urged the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to repaint the blue lane intended for persons with disabilities (PWD) on the overpass near the main market.

Yangot issued the request after noting that the blue lane is no longer visible and that a no jaywalking sign was instead installed in the area.

He said the replacement of the blue lane with a traffic sign resulted in inconvenience, especially to persons with special needs.

“With this predicament, there is therefore a need to reopen the blue lane crossing in that area for the convenience of our elders and PWDs. This is in keeping with the general mandate of the state to give priority to the needs of the underprivileged sick, elderly and disabled,” the councilor said.

He also asked the CEO to coordinate with the Baguio City Police Office’s Traffic Management Branch so that the police could also act accordingly.

Among other proposals submitted to the City Council in addressing the plight of PWDs and senior citizens include the provision of a lane in restaurants, malls and theaters that would cater only to PWDs and senior citizens.

The proposal remains pending before the City Council committee on social services, women and urban poor.
