A security camera helped police arrest a man who stabbed his Japanese brother-in-law to death in front of the victim’s children in Pasig City at around midnight Wednesday.
“The camera would not tell a lie,” National Capital Region Police Office chief Vidal Querol said yesterday.
The police recovered the blood-stained shirt of Matias Hicale after the killing of Fumio Omino, 50, inside his Internet cafe in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City.
“It was the same shirt he was wearing as shown in the footage taken by the closed circuit security camera inside the cafe,” Querol said.
Hicale, a caretaker at the cafe, gave up to the police hours later. “I surrendered because I know it was not really my fault. I did not know what I was doing,” he said.
He added that he was blinded by rage when Omino started yelling at him in Japanese after he asked for money to buy some beer.
Hicale suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Omino repeatedly in the chest and belly. He also stabbed another worker who tried to stop him.
Hicale then ran out of the shop on Magsaysay Road in Karangalan Village.
His victims were brought to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center where Omino was declared dead on arrival.
