National police chief retires – Sun.Star Pangasinan!

LINGAYEN — National Police Chief Arturo Lomibao will celebrate his 56th birthday Wednesday, the same day that he will be retiring from police service.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, Lomibao will turn over the Philippine National Police (PNP) office to the second man in the police hierarchy, Oscar Calderon, who belongs to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1973. The turnover ceremony will be held in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Lomibao, a native of Barangay Gueguesange, Mangaldan, assumed as national police chief in March 2005. He is the first Pangasinense to hold the top police post.

He said the legacy he will leave behind is the restoration of the dignity of men and women in uniform and transformation of the police organization, including the construction of new police stations and purchase of equipment.

“We give them (police officers) decent office so that the people will respect them more. We provide them the so-called mission essential equipment like mobility, communication, investigation equipment for them to be able to work effectively,” he said.

In Pangasinan, two-storey police buildings were constructed in Manaoag, San Fabian, Mangaldan, Rosales, Mangatarem, and Mapandan towns. There are also ongoing construction of police buildings in San Jacinto, Binmaley, and Bani.

Lomibao said new PNP stations for other municipalities nationwide are also ready for construction. He said police officers should always give the best service that they can give to the people as physical transformation or upgrading of equipment is of no importance if the service they provide the people is not good.

The outgoing PNP chief said although he wanted to rest after his retirement, he is not closing his door to wherever President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo wishes him to serve later. Malacañang officials are reportedly considering him to be the new director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
