Gov. Lerias lobbies for livelihood projects in relocation sites – PIA!

Southern Leyte (4 October) — Provincial Developing Rural Industries and Village Enterprise (DRIVE) Committee Chair Governor Rosette Lerias will put forward livelihood project proposals to assist the landslide victims in 5 relocation sites this time with the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) for possible funding.
Aside from looking into the priority facilities like housing units for several hundreds of households affected by disastrous landslides, the lady governor also facilitated for the establishment of day care centers, school buildings, barangay activity centers, barangay health centers, among others in each relocation site as a new community. She is also moved with the worsening economic conditions of these victims due to the displacement.
Governor Lerias reported during the regular meeting with Provincial DRIVE that she will again present the Php 3 Million worth of livelihood project proposals to NDCC at the soonest possible time as she earlier presented the same with the ABS-CBN Foundation.
The fish drying project was highly considered by the committee as the focused livelihood activity for the 5 relocation sites as follows: Barangays Catig and Malangza of Liloan, Barangay Pinut-an, San Ricardo; Barangay Pasanon, San Francisco and Barangay Magbagakay, San Juan, all of Southern Leyte.
Five units of mechanical dryer worth Php 75,000.00 each shall be fabricated locally, it was learned.
Livelihood projects shall be awarded to non-government organizations or groups which have legal existence in all relocation sites mentioned above where the group will then serve as the operator of the dryer. They will buy the fish from the fishermen, dry and sell the quality dried fish to the market.
DTI Provincial Director Michael Nuñez, an active member of the DRIVE Committee prepared the project proposals and emphasized the need to keenly observe good manufacturing practices, quality consciousness and proper labeling for all dried fish products in all relocation sites production.(PIA So.
