Food complex to help realize ’super region’

Posted by Michille on October 31st, 2006

THE establishment of the Davao Food Exchange Complex will further accelerate the growth of Mindanao’s economy as one super region, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region said.

The project, which has an initial estimated cost of P0.5 billion, is designed to complement with the National Government’s thrust of developing and promoting agri-based industries with high growth potentials and where competitive advantage can be fully explored.

Moreover, it was identified in the Super Regions economic development strategy of the National Government as one of the infrastructures that would make Mindanao realize its full potential through the setting up of an efficient food logistics system linking it to Luzon and Visayas.

Trade assistant secretary Merly M. Cruz said the region, being an agricultural and resource-based economy, will benefit a lot from the project.
