Council of women tackles opportunities for entrepreneurship and livelihood

Tacloban City (November 2) — The annual gathering of all local councils of women through the fourth Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women General Assembly will revolve around opening of opportunities for entrepreneurship and livelihood.

Ms. Rosalind Wee, the president of the Federation, informed that the General Assembly will be held on November 27-29, 2006 at the Manila Pavilion Hotel at the United Nations Avenue corner Maria Orosa Drive at Ermita, Manila.

The Assembly is aimed to promote women’s opportunities and participation in business activities and to strengthen collaborative efforts with government organizations, private sector and the local government units with a display of products.

The Assembly will also serve as the venue in opening opportunities for entrepreneurship and livelihood. It is hoped to widen horizon for economic opportunities of all local councils of women.

This year’s highlights of the activities will include the information campaigns on economic empowerment programs which are being initiated in Luzon and a pilot area both in Visayas and Mindanao regions. Other information related to some entrepreneurial and livelihood activities will also be included.

Ms. Wee said that these livelihood opportunities are initial economic empowerment programs and projects that the Federation wants to localize in all localities throughout the country and will open the opportunities for all local council of women and women non-government organizations to into business.

Ms. Wee said that the assembly will also feature activities like Product Display which will be participated in by all organized local council of women in the country.

The participants to the Assembly will include GO representatives from the LGU-GAD structure and the committee on women and NGO members from the local council of women. The officers or representatives of the established local council of women and the municipal social welfare development officers will also be present. (PIA-8)
