Meralco seeks approval of TOU rates

Posted by Michille on January 31st, 2007

Giant utility firm Manila Electric Company is seeking the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for its time-of-use (TOU) rates that it proposed to offer up to the level of residential customers with at least 2,000 kilowatt hours of monthly consumption.

If the company secures the regulatory body’s approval, Meralco president Jesus P. Francisco noted that this will benefit around 10,000 of its customers.

He intimated that a favorable ruling rendered by the ERC will give its residential customers the flexibility to choose between its rates and the competitive rate offer of state-owned National Power Corporation.

End-users interested to avail of the TOU rates will have to change their meters that could measure their level of consumption at different times of the day; which would be cheaper during off-peak period and higher during high-demand or peak period.
