Provincial police told to strengthen intelligence to solve robberies

WESTERN Visayas Regional Police Director Wilfredo Dulay on Tuesday urged his Provincial Police Director Joel Napoleon Coronel to intensify his intelligence monitoring in order to solve the robbery cases in the province.

Dulay saw the accomplishment report submitted by Coronel that there were 21 unsolved robbery cases from January to December 2006.

Dulay has directed the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division (RIID) headed by Cornelio Defensor and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) headed by Superintendent Renato Gumban to help Coronel.

On the other hand, Coronel said of the 21 cases, four were done by a syndicate from central Iloilo.

New chamber prexy vows transparency

THE newly installed president of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) vowed transparency in the chamber’s operations and activities in dealing with members, partners and multi-sector stakeholders.

Lawyer Domingo Duerme, in his acceptance speech during the 39th installation officers and board of trustees of DCCCII on January 26, made the 100 percent commitment adding that the success attained by his predecessor and outgoing set of officers is so inspiring.

Duerme, who is also Philippine Airlines vice president from Mindanao operations, said he envisions the chamber to be an “action center, one that promotes Davao to be the place to do business.”

The chamber, he said, will continue to strengthen its links with local and international business organizations.

Cotabato City reserves P3M for Philhealth cards

Koronadal, South Cotabato (31 January) — Per certification issued by the Local Finance Committee in the City Government of Cotabato dated January 18, 2007 duly signed by the City Treasurer, Budget Officer, Planning and Development Coordinator, Accountant and Administrator, Mayor Sema reserved Php3.6M for the Philhealth cards of 6,000 indigent households of Cotabato City.

“This is the second year of our Indigent Program implementation after we adopted 1,000 households last 2004-2005. We hope to sustain the sponsorship of 6,000 indigent families starting this year because they are our priority in terms of health care needs,” Sema said.

The OIC of Membership and Marketing Division, Ms Chona B, Ilustre then assured him that on or before March 31 this year, Philhealth will generate and distribute said IDs.

On the other hand, Admin Officer Guiamelon said “We are so happy to note that for paying only Php600,000 in 2004 for sponsoring 1000 families, our beneficiaries were subsidized by Philhealth for more than Php1.3M of their hospitalization expenses.”

“As implementer of this noble health program, we are always here to support you,” AVP Aristoza assured. “All we have to do is to carry out our commitment and serve our people to the best that we can,” he further said.

As of December 31, 2006 Cotabato City has an active indigent card holders of 9,445 under the Plan 2.5M program of the national government.

The City Social Welfare Officer, Ofelia S. Ibrahim, RSW is planning to identify the poorest among the poor amongst said beneficiaries to be transferred under the local government’s sponsorship. This is to sustain their health care needs considering that the Mayor committed to uphold the program as long as he leads. (PhilHealth 12/PIA 12)

Bacolod joins int’l IT summit

BACOLOD City: This city is joining this year’s e-Services Philippines—Asia’s premier ITEs (information technology enterprises) global sourcing conference and exhibition next month in Manila.

Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chair of the Bacolod IT Focus Team, has officially been designated by Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with the Investment and Promotions Officer Ardis Jaculina to join the local Department of Trade and Industry representatives in Manila on February 15 and 16.

This annual summit gives companies contemplating outsourcing relationship, investors and ancillary industries with the opportunity to meet, network and build partnerships with the Philippines ITEs providers.

Clear plan to avert water crisis urged

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — An environmental group has urged the government to implement “strategic and concrete measures” to avert the looming fresh water crisis in the country.

Lia Jasmin Esquillo, executive director of the Interface Development Interventions, Inc. (IDIS), said they had long sounded the alarm over the fresh water crisis but it appeared that only a few individuals and sectors gave importance to it.

And even as she acknowledged that the government has finally “found the guts to talk about this,” Esquillo stressed it must work to immediately address the problem seen as a disaster waiting to explode.

City of Koronadal ready for CRAA Meet

Koronadal City (31 January) — CRAA Meet delegations has completely arrived. they have been coming since 24th of January for the familiarization of game venues and the hosting place.

The visiting delegations are composed of more than 5,000 persons. Nine (9) from athletes of different school division and one (1) from technical officials of the game.

To illustrate: South Cotabato-550, Gen. Santos-503, Tacurong City-460, Cotabato Province-520, Kidapawan City-520, Cotabato City-600, Sarangani Province-511, Koronadal City-575, Sultan Kudarat-460 and Technical Officials-550.

As members of the committee on Public Information and Promotions, a press conference was held at the Media center for CRAA Meet yesterday.

Hon. Mayor Fernando Q. Miguel had made to appear on the said conference together with DepEd Supervisor l Napoleon Comicho, City Schools Division Superintendent Ma. Rosa C. Gutierez and Information and Promotion Committee Chairman Olivia T. Sudaria of PIA.

It was well-attended also by our local media practitioners, school papers advisers , other government line agencies and student writers of public and private schools.

The City Mayor admitted that when they submitted the supplemental budget, CRAA Meet was over-looked and Palarong Pambansa was the Focus. He added that there was no fixed budget for CRAA but he assured that in case of failure, they will have the savings surplus or local funds to cover up. To quote he pronounced “we are now ready to face the music.”

This afternoon at 2:30 PM will be the official opening of the Regional event which will start with a parade followed by opening ceremonies and the Grand welcome program for the visitors in the evening. (PIA 12)
