Koronadal, South Cotabato (31 January) — Per certification issued by the Local Finance Committee in the City Government of Cotabato dated January 18, 2007 duly signed by the City Treasurer, Budget Officer, Planning and Development Coordinator, Accountant and Administrator, Mayor Sema reserved Php3.6M for the Philhealth cards of 6,000 indigent households of Cotabato City.
“This is the second year of our Indigent Program implementation after we adopted 1,000 households last 2004-2005. We hope to sustain the sponsorship of 6,000 indigent families starting this year because they are our priority in terms of health care needs,” Sema said.

On the other hand, Admin Officer Guiamelon said “We are so happy to note that for paying only Php600,000 in 2004 for sponsoring 1000 families, our beneficiaries were subsidized by Philhealth for more than Php1.3M of their hospitalization expenses.”
“As implementer of this noble health program, we are always here to support you,” AVP Aristoza assured. “All we have to do is to carry out our commitment and serve our people to the best that we can,” he further said.
As of December 31, 2006 Cotabato City has an active indigent card holders of 9,445 under the Plan 2.5M program of the national government.
The City Social Welfare Officer, Ofelia S. Ibrahim, RSW is planning to identify the poorest among the poor amongst said beneficiaries to be transferred under the local government’s sponsorship. This is to sustain their health care needs considering that the Mayor committed to uphold the program as long as he leads. (PhilHealth 12/PIA 12)
