CAMP John Hay Development Corporation (CJHDevCo) and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) are calling on all artists from all walks of life to participate in the annual Panagbenga flower-painting activity dubbed “Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom” on February 4.
Since 1995, the activity has been one of the long-standing original components of the annual Baguio flower festival signaling the beginning of the festivities. Various paintings are made by the general public to adorn the whole city.
The activity epitomizes the value of community involvement and participation as literally thousands of flower paintings bloom from the inspiration of Baguio residents.
This year, however, CJH authorities have decided to post the paintings in all banner stands spread out all over camp, including facades of landmark buildings in this former American rest and recreation base.

THE plan of some of the 23 municipalities that want their towns elevated into cities will not be realized after all.
The League of Cities said the municipalities applying for cityhood status must comply with all the requirements needed for conversion.
Mayor Celso Lobregat said the official stand was made in the form of a resolution addressed to Congress adopted by the League of Cities in a conference last week.
One of the reasons cited is that it would be unfair for the other towns, which diligently met all the requirements before they were granted cityhood status.

Makati City’s officers from its elite assault and tactical operations team staged an anti-terrorist training exercise Tuesday using training guns used by the United States military and police personnel.
With Makati police chief Superintendent Gilbert Cruz and other officials playing terrorists, commandos of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and other units of the Makati police tested the guns, which are designed to help police and soldiers sharpen their skills without getting anybody killed.
Known as the Real Action Marker (RAM), the modified weaponry employs a combination of laser emitters and a computer-controlled system of laser receivers that pinpoint the exact trajectory of each simulation bullet.
