OFFICIALS of German airline Lufthansa were in Davao City over the weekend as the airline company took part in the recently concluded Davao Travel Show 2007.
Headed by the general manager for the Philippines Christopher Zimmer, Lufthansa participated in the three-day long event in order to “get a picture” of the tourism market in Davao City.
“We are basically here to do a feasibility study on the market of Davao City,” Zimmer told Sun.Star Davao.
The airline, he said, also hopes to gain a better perspective of the city.
He said the Davao International Airport is one of the best in the country.

NOW that they have organized themselves, members of the business community in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova town plan to focus on improving the investment climate in the two areas.
One way to this is to address delays in the issuance of business permits and licenses, a common complaint of businesses in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova.
“It took me six to seven months to get a building permit for Coral Point Gardens,†said Efrain Pelaez Jr., one of the incorporators of the Lapu and Cordova Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
Speaking from experience, Pelaez, who is also president of Coral Point Development Corp., said permit processing delays caused him to move the implementation of some property development projects to more than a year later.

BEIJING – A sandstorm with hurricane-strength wind gusts derailed a train in China’s far west on Wednesday, killing at least four people and injuring another 30, state media said.
The 11-car train had just left a station in Turpan, in the Xinjiang region’s east, when it was hit by wind at 2 a.m., the Xinhua News Agency said.
“A strong sandstorm cracked window panes soon after the train left Turpan, and blew some of the cars off the rail when we were trying to plug up the windows,” Xinhua quoted passenger Su Chuanyi as saying.
Sandstorms fed by the deserts of Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia blow toward Beijing and the eastern seaboard each spring powered by vigorous winds. Sometimes, the dust blows out across the Pacific, clouding the skies of
South Korea and occasionally drifting as far as the western coast of the United States.

COPENHAGEN — Wine drinkers tend to buy healthier food than beer drinkers, according to a Danish study published Tuesday on the website of a weekly medical review.
People who bought wine at the store were also more likely to buy more olives, fruits and vegetables, fish, lean meats and dairy products than beer consumers did, said the study.
Beer buyers were more likely to buy frozen dinners, cold cuts, pork, mutton, crisps, sugary products, butter, margarine and soft drinks.
The study, published in the Danish review Ugeskrift for Laeger, was conducted by four researchers from the National Institute of Public Health over the course of six months.
