Opposition economic figures hit

MALACAÑANG yesterday blasted the opposition for presenting a distorted picture of the economy to make it appear that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was a failure and that her candidates in the coming polls did not deserve to be elected.
“They are engaging us in a debate [but] they have led themselves into their own dungeon,†said newly designated presidential chief-of-staff Joey Salceda.
He was reacting to full-page advertisements by the opposition disparaging the economic gains under the Arroyo presidency as “a mirage†and claiming that the country was better off during the “shortened†term of deposed President Joseph Estrada.
But Salceda, one of the President’s economic advisers, said the opposition would only embarrass themselves if the economic data of both administrations were presented side by side.
