MANILA, Philippines–The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) should decide on transport groups’ petition to restore the minimum fare to P7.50 as it promised a month ago, a transport leader said on Monday.
The current minimum fare in Metro Manila and Regions 3 and 4 is P7, owing to the P0.50 rollback imposed by the LTFRB at the end of 2006 due to stable oil prices.
The Pinag-Isang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) has been getting in touch with other transport groups that supported the fare restoration and would likely submit a query to the LTFRB later this week or early next week, PISTON spokesperson George San Mateo said in a phone interview.
In May, jeepney groups sought a fare restoration to P7.50 only if the agency would act to stop continued fuel price increases. The areas to be affected are the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and Southern Tagalog.
