Demoted Cop Unsure Why Desk Job Considered Punishment

CHICAGO—Noting that his new assignment is low-stress and conveniently located next to the vending machines, Chicago Police Department patrolman Fred Carlson, 31, reported Tuesday that he cannot figure out what about his 90-day demotion to a desk job is supposed to be punitive.

“The paperwork’s easy, there’s central air, and sometimes I can even take my shoes off,” Carlson said. “Plus, I’ve been at this for three weeks now, and guess how many times I’ve been afraid for my life? Zero.”

Carlson claimed that if he had known accidentally shooting an unarmed black kid would be this rewarding, he would have done it sooner.

$3600 New Nissan Auto

Posted by Delbert on 30th July 2007

I have just returned from auto shopping I discovered a Nissan March for 165,000 Philippine Peso, which at the current rate of exchange is $3622.00 U.S. Dollars.

This price is for a four door hatch back with 1.0 liter motor, auto transmission, stereo, air conditioner, Tax, Title and one year of full coverage included in the price.

I can not find anything similar in the U.S. for less than $13,000.00. This car is manufactured in Taiwan, Republic of China, and Philippines. It is roomy inside for a subcompact car. The fuel economy is 38 miles per gallon as equipped.

Detroit is in big trouble unless they rapidly embrace cheaper cars while retaining the quality as good or better than imports to the American market.

It is truly a world class value!

OFWs warned vs jobs in China

The Philippine Star

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Sunday warned aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against accepting employment offers in China.

POEA chief Rosalinda Baldoz said job seekers should practice caution in accepting job offers from China because chances are they would end up in jail, deported or enslaved in prostitution dens.

“The Chinese government has not relaxed its immigration policy so there is not much jobs for foreigners, including Filipinos, there,” she said in a statement.

Baldoz issued the statement amid reports of the rising number of Filipinos who were promised non-existent jobs by Filipino and Chinese illegal recruiters.

She said the POEA received information from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) concerning the arrest of Filipinos who went to China to work as domestic helpers.

The Filipino workers are reportedly carrying Chinese business “F” visas that were processed and secured through agents from the Shandong Public Security Bureau. Holders of “F” visas cannot work in China.

“The market for Filipino and other foreign domestic helpers in China remained closed and limited only to local nationals,” Baldoz said.

Baldoz said there were also Filipino who went to China to work as teachers but they were eventually deported because they were not given working visas.

There were also Filipinos who were recruited to work as waitresses but were forced to work in prostitution dens in Dalian City, she said. Mayen Jaymalin

NDCC extends cloud-seeding in Metro Manila, Luzon areas

Buoyed by heavy rains in Metro Manila last weekend, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) has expanded its cloud-seeding operations over five regions in Luzon, including Metro Manila.

NDCC head Glenn Rabonza said Monday that two additional Air Force planes have been mobilized to seed clouds over Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cordillera, and Metro Manila.

“Araw-araw ito. Isang aircraft two sorties in one day, isang sortie isa’t kalahating oras (This will take place every day. Each aircraft will have two sorties in one day, each sortie taking one-and-a-half hours),” Rabonza said in an interview on dzXL radio.

He said the two PAF aircraft will boost the existing three PAF aircraft initially mobilized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Soil and Water Management.

Bhutto ready to share power if Musharraf drops military role

· Joint rule seen as best way to beat extremists
· Deal could rescue beleaguered general

Pakistans exiled opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto, has said she can share power with President Pervez Musharraf, but only if he quits as army chief.

Ms Bhuttos comments, in a television interview, followed a secret meeting with General Musharraf on Friday in the United Arab Emirates. Confirmation of the encounter by a cabinet minister intensified media speculation on the future of Pakistans troubled government. “Deal done, sealed,” said one newspaper headline.

But there was little hard information about what transpired in the meeting, which followed months of quiet negotiations. The sticking point appears to be whether Gen Musharraf can retain his dual role as president and head of the army. In an interview with the local KTN station late on Saturday, Ms Bhutto said: “We do not accept President Musharraf in uniform. Our stand is that, and I stick to my stand.”

In theory, a deal would make sense for both leaders. Gen Musharraf, who took power in a bloodless coup in 1999, wants to remain as president after elections due within the next six months. But after a series of political bungles and rising Islamist violence, he is unpopular and isolated.

Basilan quiet but tense after deferred offensive

Basilan quiet but tense
after deferred offensive

Tensions remained high in Basilan on Sunday, despite the military suspending operations against Muslim separatists accused of killing 14 Marines.

A 2,000-member task force assigned to hunt down suspects linked to the killing stayed in place after the government halted the operations until after an investigation into the July 10 attack.

Fourteen Marines were killed, 10 of whom were beheaded, as they searched for the kidnappers of an Italian Roman Catholic priest, since freed unharmed.

Col. Ramiro Alivio, commander of a military brigade deployed in Basilan, said “intelligence operations and security patrols” were continuing, but there have been no large-scale movement of forces by either side and no armed contact has been recorded as of Sunday.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which has been observing a three-year ceasefire while in peace talks with the government, has said its forces killed the soldiers because they had strayed into its territory.
