Sison symphatizers to hold worldwide protests

Progressive group members were set to hold simultaneous demonstrations Thursday in various countries to protest the arrest of communist leader Jose Maria Sison in The Netherlands.

Carol Araullo, chairwoman of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), said activist groups based in United States, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Europe will launch protests actions to decry Sison’s “unjust and politically motivated” arrest.

“The Arroyo government is sorely mistaken when it thinks that it can intimidate the peoples’ movement for national liberation and democracy. This whole incident will backfire on the Arroyo regime and the war-mongers in her Cabinet. The whole world is seeing the insincerity of the Philippine government in pursuing the peace negotiations,” Araullo said.
