MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita on Tuesday raised the possibility of a political alliance between President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and deposed President Joseph Estrada following her decision to free the convicted plunderer.

Ermita said on his return from the United States, where he defended the administration’s human rights record, that he expected a “realignment of forces,” specifically the “forces of President Estrada going along with the President.”

He said such a marriage of political forces would be crucial to not only putting an end to bickering but also uplifting the lives of poor Filipinos.
