Night shift workers, docs, emergency workers exempted from curfew
Diplomats and night-shift workers, doctors, media practitioners on duty will be exempted from coverage of checkpoint searches during the curfew from midnight Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.
Radio dzBB reported that the Philippine National Police has also suspended the effectivity of permits to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFORs).
Malacañang and the Interior department also sternly reminded police manning the checkpoints not to engage in extortion or harassment.

Cops free 11 ABS-CBN personnel after ‘processing’
Eleven ABS-CBN News personnel were released Thursday night after spending a few hours at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) headquarters in Bicutan, Taguig City for “processing’ following the re-arrest of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Army Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim who staged a standoff at Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City.
Earlier, President Arroyo ordered the immediate release of journalists brought to the NCRPO headquarters for questioning as soon as it is proven that they should not be kept there.

Newspapers asked to publish Boracay mansion auction

Several newspaper companies were invited yesterday by the Sandiganbayan to publish the notice of public auction of the Boracay mansion in New Manila, Quezon City.
In its Notice of Raffle sent to the newspaper companies, Executive Clerk of Court IV and Sandiganbayan spokesperson Atty. Renato Bocar said the newspapers were notified that there will be a raffle of the Notice of Sale of Real Property on Execution involving the forfeited “Boracay mansion” of former President Joseph Estrada.

Seized documents showed standoff a ‘well-planned activity’

MANILA, Philippines — Recovered documents showed the six-hour standoff at the Manila Peninsula Thursday was a “well-planned activity,” Philippine National Police chief General Avelino Razon said.
The documents revealed the codename of certain individuals belonging to four groups involved in the siege, Razon said in a news briefing in Malacañang late Thursday.

144th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio observed today
The 144th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio will be commemorated today with wreath-offering rites at the Bonifacio Monument, Tutuban; Bonifacio National Monument, Caloocan City; Liwasang Bonifacio, Lawton; Bonifacio Shrine, Manila City Hall; Bonifacio Monument, Balintawak; and and the Bonifacio Trial House in Maragondon, Cavite.
Bonifacio was born to Santiago Bonifacio, a boatman, and Catalina de Castro, a Spanish mestiza who worked as a supervisor in a cigarette factory in Meisic (“Maintsik”), which today is Manila’s Chinatown.

JdV, Lakas to join Villar

THIS early, House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and his allies at the Lakas Christian-Muslim Democrats may have hinted at the possibility they would leave the Arroyo administration and join the bid of Nacionalista Party leader, Senate President Manuel Villar, in the 2010 presidential elections.
De Venecia, who will end his third consecutive term as congressman in 2010, is expected to seek a higher office when President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo steps down two years from now.
