Arroyo lauds swift action on Makati standoff
President Arroyo on Thursday commended authorities for resolving the standoff at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City with “efficiency†and “dispatch.â€
“I commend the law enforcement authorities supported by AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines] elements for resolving the Makati standoff with efficiency and dispatch. I direct that all residual threats, if any, be mopped up to fully restore law and order,†Mrs. Arroyo said in a statement.

RP team wins gold in world robotics tilt

The Philippine Robotics Team won for the second straight year the gold medal at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) held in Taiwan last Nov. 16 to 18.
The team constructed a model community run by robots with security systems that included a building that could thwart terror attacks similar to 9/11.
Bryan Lao, Alyssa Sheena Tan and Mark Ian Tan, of Grace Christian High School, under the guidance of coach Edster Sy, won the Open Category (Secondary Level).

Rebels surrender; curfew on
11/30/2007
The government imposed yesterday a curfew from 12 midnight to 5 a.m., after troops stormed a Makati hotel, forcing the surrender of a group of renegade soldiers led by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno said in a nationwide television address the curfew covers Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Southern Luzon.
Puno said the curfew will last to fully determine if there are residues of the threat.

More than 50 journalists covering Makati standoff arrested

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE 7) More than 50 journalists who covered the takeover of the Manila Peninsula hotel were taken into custody, many of them in handcuffs, by police following the arrest of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and Brigadier General Danilo Lim and other renegade soldiers early Thursday evening.
Police Deputy Director General Jesus Verzosa said later that the journalists had been released at around 10:30 p.m. but claimed only 17 had been taken into custody, including four Filipinos working for foreign media outfits.

Noli: We still have 2-3 months to save Ranario
The Philippine government is eyeing a deadline of “two to three months” to save overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Marilou Ranario from her death sentence recently affirmed by a Kuwaiti court.
Vice president Manuel “Noli” de Castro Jr said Thursday the two- to three-month period is the usual time between the promulgation of sentence and the actual execution.

Chronology of events
9:30 a.m.: Hearing of Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th with 31 co-accused Magdalo soldiers at the Makati Regional Trial Court. Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim attends to testify.
10:42 a.m.: Navy Lt. James Layug, one of the co-accused, marched in front of the courtroom and opened the gate of the witness stand and took Lim by the left arm. He dragged Lim out of the courtroom, and rode the elevator down to the ground floor together. There is a scuffle as reporters and Sen. Trillanes scramble to get to Lim.
