JI forces weaken: military chief

ARMED Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said the strength of the Southeast Asian regional terrorist network Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) has declined to around 20 men in the country, from a high of at least 30 to 40 men several years ago.

JDV III returns to Manila to face ZTE probe

Businessman Jose “Joey” de Venecia III has returned to Manila following his testimony against First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo regarding the aborted national broadband network deal with China’s ZTE Corp.

De Venecia, a son namesake of of the House speaker, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Tuesday on board a Cathay Pacific flight from the United States.

Witness in Senate probe of ZTE mess flies to Hongkong

A key witness in the $329.5-million broadband network mess with ZTE Corp. of China flew to Hong Kong early Wednesday, days after reports came out saying that Malacanang has been exerting pressure to prevent him from testifying.

Radio dzMM reported that Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr checked in at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) before dawn to catch a Philippine Airlines flight (PR-300) for Hong Kong.

According to Hilario and Filomena Tapnio, this happened to their 39-year-old cancer-stricken son Alberto, in a span of four hours, which included a brief encounter with healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez.

Bush to focus on Iran, Iraq, fears

WASHINGTON: President George W. Bush warned against pulling the plug on his Iraq strategy and assured the US public—now more worried about the their economy than the war—that help was on the way.

With barely 12 months before his term ends, and less before the race to the November elections all but sidelines him, Bush also vowed to “confront” Iran where necessary and do “everything we can” to reach a Middle East peace deal.
