Pimentel bats for bloc voting in proposed federal government

The president and vice president will be voted as a team under the proposal of Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. for the Philippines to be transformed into a federal state comprised of 11 states.
“The vote for a presidential candidate shall automatically be counted as a vote for his or her vice presidential candidate if the latter belongs to the same party, aggrupment or coalition of parties as the former does,” read Pimentel’s resolution.

‘RP a money laundering haven for drug cartels, terrorists’
The Philippines has been included in a list of 56 nations identified as money laundering heavens for foreign drug cartels and terrorist organizations due to weak money laundering laws, a US State Department report warned.

36 RP-China deals suspended

At least 36 agreements on agriculture and fisheries between the Philippines and China have been suspended.
Agriculture Undersecretary Berna Romulo Puyat told the House of Representatives agriculture committee chaired by Palawan Rep. Abraham Mitra yesterday that the agreements have been suspended while consultations are being held with the affected sectors.
