A suspected military agent who claims to have a “line” to Abu Sayyaf leader Radulan Sahiron and is accused of setting up and leading ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Ces Drilon and her three companions to their abductors in Sulu, has agreed to turn state witness against Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji and his son Haider.

An international salvage team was to arrive late Sunday in the Philippines to remove toxic cargo from a sunken ferry so divers could recover hundreds of bodies, an official said.

Meralco: We may go bankrupt if we absorb all systems losses

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said yesterday it would go bankrupt if the government requires them to absorb all systems losses.

In an interview at the sidelines of yesterday’s energy forum hosted by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Meralco president Jesus Francisco said they are doing their best to bring down the systems losses.

For the 17th time this year, pump prices go up

Prices of fuel products will increase again this weekend, the 17th in the weekly adjustment implemented by oil companies for the past few months.

Pilipinas Shell spokesman Bobby Kanapi said the weekend increase is part of the incremental hikes being imposed by the oil company to catch up on its underrecovery.

(UPDATE) Experts: Pesticide endosulfan highly dangerous for humans, marine life

Health and toxicology experts on Friday said the chemical endosulfan, which was reported to have been part of the MV Princess of the Stars’ cargo shipment when it sank off the coast of Sibuyan Island, Romblon last week at the height of typhoon Frank (international codename Fengshen), is “highly toxic” to both humans and marine life.
