Poor Pinoys to get more public health care packages in 2009 budget

The national government is boosting its social health services next year with poor Filipinos getting more “public health care packages†under the proposed P1.415-trillion national budget for 2009, Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr. said yesterday.
This, as the House appropriations committee starts public hearings on Wednesday on the proposed national budget for 2009.

MANILA, Philippines—The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Sunday warned of a full-blown war with the peace process “in purgatory†after the government told the Supreme Court on Friday that a Moro homeland deal had been scrapped.
MILF chief negotiator Mohaqher Iqbal told Reuters news agency that the MILF was no longer confident it could strike a final peace agreement under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration.

Palace defends 100% pay hike for Arroyo

MANILA, Philippines – There is nothing irregular about the doubling of the President’s salary as all state employees will be given a pay raise in the next four years.
This was the reaction of Malacañang to criticisms against the four-year salary upgrade plan for state workers that will increase the President’s monthly pay to P120,000 from P60,000. The proposal had been submitted by the Department of Budget and Management to Congress.

Joey de V plans to run for Congress

The son of former speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. who figured prominently in the national broadband network scandal plans to run for Congress in Pangasinan in 2010 to replace his father.
Speaking at the Balitaan sa Tinapayan in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday, Jose “Joey†de Venecia III said he is traveling nationwide as part of his advocacy to fight corruption and poverty.

RP economy slowing earlier than expected – Deutsche Bank

Deutsche Bank said the country’s economy was slowing earlier and more sharply than expected, raising concerns over the reliability of the reported growth in manufacturing and overall economic data.
Deutsche Bank said the increasingly frequent and meaningful revisions of the official numbers made it likely that the second quarter national income accounts could be adjusted downward in the coming months.
