Unilever recalls Lipton milk tea powder in HK, Macau

Food giant Unilever has recalled some Lipton-brand milk tea powder products from Hong Kong and Macau store shelves after tests proved that these contained traces of the industrial chemical melamine.

The Associated Press reported that according to Unilever Hong Kong Ltd, “internal tests have found four batches of Lipton milk tea powder contaminated with melamine.”

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy mobile investigation vans in Metro Manila to speed up its work and improve its crime-solution efficiency.

The project was formed under the concept of a small but mobile police station as it would receive complaints and conduct on-the-spot probe.

AFP seeks additional P39 billion for this year

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is seeking a P39-billion supplemental budget from Congress for the purchase of weapons and equipment to upgrade its capability and better handle security threats.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the AFP submitted to the Senate committee on national defense, through the Department of National Defense, a request for an additional P39 billion.

MANILA, Philippines — For 17 days, Ka Kuen Chua was chained to a post, his neck and hands tied and eyes covered with packaging tape. Despite paying ransom, Chua was refused freedom, and was even beaten up by kidnappers who demanded for more money.

Smart Communications said Tuesday that Senator Richard Gordon’s proposal to use text profits for education programs will only cause more inconvenience to consumers and cell phone users.

Smart Communications spokesperson Ramon Isberto explained that Gordon’s proposition is untimely given the current business environment. He said that what is more important at the moment is to come up with promotions that will lessen the cost for Short Messaging System (SMS) charges.
