Rody orders village chief to block rebels’ entry

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered all barangay chiefs in the city never to allow the entry of Special Partisan Units (Sparu) of the New People’s Army (NPA) in their barangays.
The Sparu is the one assigned to assassinate people as ordered by the NPA hierarchy.

MANILA, Philippines – Anders Hultman, the adoptive father of murder victim Maureen, on Tuesday expressed anger and disappointment over how “sneakily” President Arroyo granted the executive clemency on his daughter’s convicted killer, Claudio Teehankee Jr.
In an interview with GMA’s news desk, Hultman said he and is wife, Vivian, were “surprised, angry and sad” over the government’s decision to free Teehankee, son of the late former Chief Justice Claudio Teehankee Sr.

85 million Catholics endorse Reproductive Health Bill – Lagman

An “overwhelming majority†of 85 million Catholics have endorsed the Reproductive Health Bill as a means of family planning, according to the bill’s principal author.
However, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman said the Catholic Church has remained “deaf†to the call of its flock.

China cancels series of military, diplomatic contacts with US
WASHINGTON (AP) — China has abruptly canceled a series of military and diplomatic contacts with the United States to protest a planned multibillion dollar US arms sale to Taiwan, American officials told The Associated Press.
Beijing has notified the US that it will not go forward with several senior level visits and other cooperative military-to-military plans, said Marine Maj. Stewart Upton, a Defense Department spokesman, on Monday.
