Davao mayor to criminals: Parade or execution
DAVAO CITY — “It’s a choice between being paraded in media or ending up dead in Davao City,” was Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte’s reaction to a police order against parading suspected criminals.
“Mamili ka, papatayin kita or display kita? (You choose, I will kill you or I will display you),” Duterte said on how he would treat criminals.

BBC comedy hit for racist remark vs Pinay maids

The government was urged to file a complaint and demand an apology from the British government-owned British Broadcasting Corp. for racist remarks and negative portrayal of Filipinas abroad, specifically Filipina domestic helpers.
Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros urged the Department of Foreign Affairs to file a complaint before the British government and demand an apology from BBC, whose Sept. 26 skit in the popular “Harry and Paul†comedy show was offensive.

The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) has been taking a long time to test milk and food products from China for melamine.
The public can hardly wait for the BFAD verdict on milk and food products made in China.
BFAD’s excuse that it lacks both manpower and equipment does not hold when public health is at stake.

Miriam wants Customs probed for melamine scandal

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago filed a resolution Monday that seeks a Senate investigation on the Bureau of Customs over the alleged smuggling of melamine-tainted milk and other food products into the country.
Santiago made the call after health officials raised concerns that Chinese-made milk products contaminated with melamine were smuggled goods.

The House of Representatives is prepared to consider proposed measures aimed at helping the country weather the global financial crisis, including the imposition of additional taxes on alcohol and tobacco products, commonly known as “sin taxes,” Speaker Prospero C. Nograles said yesterday.
Nograles underscored the need to prepare the country for the possible adverse effects of the global financial crisis which started in the United States, by coming up with counter measures.

Govt to ask China to pay up over tainted milk

The Philippines would ask the Chinese government to help Filipino milk businessmen recover their losses supposedly caused by contaminated milk products that they had imported from China, Trade Secretary Peter Favila said Monday.
Favila added that the Health department had asked his office to “make representation with the Chinese Embassy, if there’s a way the Chinese government can help out†in the case of the distressed local importers.
