MANILA, Philippines—Prominent publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito, were abducted while cruising near the intersection of Zobel Roxas Street and President Osmeña Highway in Metro Manila on Nov. 24, 2000. They were brought to Cavite, where they were strangled to death, burned and buried.

Their remains were recovered months later from a creek bed in Cavite and identified by forensic experts in April 2001, based on the victims’ dental records and personal things.

Was the Senate coup that ousted Manuel Villar from the Senate presidency sealed over cotton candy in a farmhouse in Pangasinan?

Cotton candy was on the menu at the birthday party of Pangasinan Rep. Rachel Arenas held last Saturday in her farmhouse in Malasiqui, attended by two very special guests: President Arroyo and Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile. No other senators were present during the lunch.

Former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante and other public officials and private persons implicated in the P728-million fertilizer fund scam have denied the criminal charges lodged against them in connection with the controversy, the Office of the Ombudsman said yesterday.

finality against MOA-AD

THE Supreme Court has ruled with finality against the memorandum of agreement on ancestral domain (MOA-AD) that the government was supposed to sign with the secessionist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

In a one-page resolution, the High Tribunal, through Clerk of Court Ma. Luisa Villarama, dismissed the motions for reconsideration filed by the Muslim Legal Assistance Foundation Inc., and the two intervenor groups, the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society and the Bangsamoro Women Solidarity Forum.
