Blockbuster filmmakers fly into RP

A respected figure in the international film industry flew in over the weekend to make a study on the Philippine movie industry in response to the films brought here by New Line Cinema International, producer of such hits as Lord of the Rings among others.
Nestor Nieves, senior vice president of New Line Cinema International, flew in from Hong Kong, after visiting several Asian countries. He arrived with Wilson Yuloque, president of Pioneer Films, local distributors of some Hollywood blockbusters.
New Line Cinema’s latest flick is the action-comedy film of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker “Rush Hour 3″, now enjoying nationwide viewership since its opening on August 8. On August 22, John Travolta’s “Hairspray”, where the macho movie idol transforms himself into a housewife and doting mother of a mature teenager who wants to use music to improve the integration of races in their school, that will open in the Philippines. Nieves brought with him a special 10-minute preview video of their biggest epic film this year, “The Golden Compass”, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. A special screening for theater owners and operators, as well as advertisers and members of the media, is scheduled on August 14 at the My Cinema, Greenbelt 3, Makati City.
