MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Saturday debunked claims by its critics that it is cooking up a no-election (no-el) scenario hand in hand with a bid to amend the1987 Constitution.

Presidential Management Staff (PMS) head Cerge Remonde also took a dig at Palace critics who he said keep on harping about Charter change and the “no-el” scenarios.

Airlines should use passenger tube: PB

THE Provincial Board (PB) committee on tourism asked the Davao International Airport Authorities to make it mandatory for airlines to utilize the passenger tube.

This suggestion was made during the committee hearing Friday on the complaints that a certain airline makes its passengers walk on the tarmac instead of using the tube.

Hu spells out China’s key role against recession

LIMA (Reuters) — Chinese President Hu Jintao spelled out Friday a potentially ambitious role for his country in staving off a deep global recession as he and US President George W. Bush prepared for a weekend summit of leaders from Asia and the Americas.

Hu and Bush, whose presidency is in its last weeks, discussed trade and other issues Friday night in Peru’s capital, before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum of 21 leaders representing more than half of global output.

MANILA, Philippines — “Ang pao,” or the red envelopes used in giving money gifts, were found to have been used to conceal the illegal drug shabu, police said.

The Anti-Illegal Drugs Branch of the Metro Manila Regional Police Office said in a report that one such envelope containing a transparent sachet with 50 grams of suspected shabu and a cigarette carton containing two plastic sachets holding a total of 150 grams of shabu were confiscated from a suspected drug dealer.

The extradition of the two former police officials linked to the killing of public relations man Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito may take some time.

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said yesterday that former police colonels Cezar Mancao II and Glenn Dumlao are entitled to question their arrest in the United States and deportation to the Philippines.
