PNB seeks to foreclose Waterfront hotels

CEBU CITY — The Philippine National Bank (PNB) is seeking the foreclosure and sale of two of Cebu’s major hotels due to a debt of about P740 million.

These are Waterfront Cebu City Casino Hotel Inc. and Waterfront Mactan Casino Hotel Inc., which are owned by Waterfront Philippines Inc. (WPI).

23 Cebuano workers jailed abroad

TWENTY-THREE overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are now behind bars for allegedly using fake working permits in the Caribbean country of Trinidad & Tobago.But the workers’ families insist that their kin left the country with authentic papers in hand, as assured by their recruitment agency.

It was the employer of the group who reportedly alerted the police to detain the 22 construction workers and electricians, plus an engineer, when they arrived at the Trinidad port from Tobago last Sept. 20.

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A beleaguered shipping firm figured anew in an accident Monday at a Cebu port.

A passenger-cargo vessel of Sulpicio Lines, Inc. was damaged after it hit a Superferry of Aboitiz Transport System Corp. at the Cebu Port.

Sulpicio’s M/V Princess of the South was set to dock at the Cebu International Port at about 10 a.m. Monday when Superferry 12, which was maneuvering out of the harbor, swept the former’s starboard side.

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The reported dumping of hospital waste, which included body parts, at the Inayawan landfill last Friday afternoon has invited the attention of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 7.

“We will conduct an investigation because part of hospital licensing is checking if the hospital has a proper disposal system of hospital waste,”Dr. Angelita Salarda, chief of the regional health and regulations division, said.

CEBU CITY — Officials of Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will be on the hot seat again after body parts and hospital wastes from the city hospital were found dumped at the Inayawan sanitary landfill.

At 9 p.m. Friday, scavengers at the landfill found a pile of rubbish that sent them calling on the police.

CEBU CITY — Two men died after saving a co-worker who passed out inside an old septic tank in Barangay Punta Engaño, where a commercial building is being constructed.

The man they saved remains confined in a hospital in Lapu-Lapu City, where he is being treated for inhaling hazardous gases like the methane that had accumulated in the tank.

US man wed to ‘male bride’ seeks annulment

CEBU CITY — An American citizen has filed for the annulment of his marriage with his Filipino partner after finding out on their wedding night that his bride, in fact, was a man.

The couple (names withheld) met on a dating website in April 2006. The two often spent hours talking on the phone and e-mailing each other. They also saw each other through a web camera.

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Outrage over the Black Suede scandal has prompted on-line users to speak out.

At least one YouTube user posted an edited version of the videotape of the operation showing medical staffers taking photos and making fun of an unconscious patient, a male florist who had a spray can removed from his rectum.
