Slide-prone village declared no man’s land
DAVAO CITY — The local government of Maco in Compostela Valley will now prevent people from living in Barangay Masara after landslides hit the area over the weekend, killing 16.
Officials in Maco town said Saturday’s landslide was the third killer landslide in a span of one year and one month.

6 dead, 30 injured in Digos City bombing

DAVAO CITY — Six people were killed while 30 others were injured when a bomb exploded on a passenger bus at a public terminal in Digos City Monday.
One of the six persons who died was identified as Marlon Doey of Basiawan in Sta. Maria, Davao del Sur. No other details were known about the victim except that he was of legal age.

MILF using landmines

DAVAO CITY – Landmines that have been planted by Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels are hampering the safe return of over 130,000 villagers to their respective barangays that have been occupied by the separatist rebels in certain parts of North Cotabato and Maguindanao.

SC stops signing of territorial deal

DAVAO CITY — The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the scheduled signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) on ancestral domain to end decades of bloody rebellion.
The Philippine government and the rebel group Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were to sign the agreement Tuesday in Malaysia, which has been brokering the negotiations.

Spiraling fuel costs crippling military, police operations

DAVAO CITY – The country’s security and peace and order situation is taking the brunt of the spiraling prices of oil and basic goods with inflation rising to a 14-year high of 11.4 percent.
The increasing fuel prices have already crippled the operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) as their respective units’ fuel allocations have drastically been reduced.

Incriminating mobile phone conversation picked up by a US satellite led authorities to implicate and arrest Indanan town Mayor Alvarez Isnaji and his son in the kidnapping of senior ABS-CBN News anchorwoman Ces Oreña-Drilon and three others in Sulu.
