MILF rebels attack, torch
buildings in Sarangani

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Rebels from the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) raided a southern Mindanao village and torched government buildings there and later fired anti-tank rockets at a coconut plantation, wounding two civilians, officials said on Saturday.

Bombs recovered in Gensan

AUTHORITIES recovered a mine explosive inside a house in General Santos City Friday morning.

Elements of Task Force (TF) Gensan and the Army’s 72nd Explosive Ordnance Division recovered one M18 A1 claymore mine, one firing device and five meters of firing wires at the house of 28-year-old Rolando Suplaag in Maraya Upper Puting Bato, Barangay Calumpang.

Fighting between AFP, MILF flares as Ramadan ends

DATU SAUDI AMPATUAN – Fighting between Philippine troops and Muslim separatists flared up on Wednesday as the Islamic holy month of Ramadan came to an end, officials said.

“The frequency of armed incidents between government troops and the lawless groups are increasing,” with the rebels launching more attacks, said military spokesman LT. Col. Colonel Ernesto Torres.

Kidnappers demand P1M negotiation fee

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Suspected Abu Sayyaf kidnappers of two aid workers in Basilan province, south of Zamboanga City, are demanding P1 million in fees to start negotiations for the release of the captives.

Professor Octavio Dinampo, president of the Mindanao People’s Caucus–a civic organization involved in the peace process, said what the kidnappers are asking for is only a “negotiation fee”, adding “it is not yet the ransom.”

CAGAYAN DE ORO — A Couples for Christ (CFC) leader in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte appealed to media Friday to confirm things before reporting them to avoid undue stress and panic among affected parties.

Flordeliza Saquin, CFC chapter leader, described how the sensational news reporting by journalists covering the raid by Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in Kolambugan last month affected innocent civilians.
