Church now using mobile phones to reach out to faithful

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) hopes to encourage the youth to read the Scriptures with the help of mobile phones.
The CBCP Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (ECBA) has come up with the “Bible Anime” project as a way to reach young people through their favorite medium of communications these days – the mobile phone.

JdV blasts PNP for witness torture

Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. yesterday cried foul and blasted the Philippine National Police over the alleged torture inflicted by the police on former Basilan town Mayor Hajarun Jamiri, to force him to implicate in the Batasan blast, Anak Mindanao party-list Rep. Mujiv Hataman, his brother Jim and former Deputy Speaker Basilan Rep. Gerry Salapuddin, as the brains behind the November bombing at the House of Representatives, that claimed the lives of Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar and four others.
In a chance interview in Malacañang, De Venecia said the recantation of Jamiri destroys the credibility of the police and further degrades the credibility of the House of Representatives.

Spain earmarks P9.2-B for new RP investments

MADRID (via PLDT) – The Philippines and Spain signed nine bilateral agreements on economic and cultural cooperation yesterday, including an accord earmarking an initial R9.2 billion worth of investments and grants from the former colonial power in the areas of agriculture and fisheries.
The government accords were inked to foster bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, tourism, and education, culture and sports on the second day of four-day state visit of President Arroyo here.
